Caimito (aka Star Apple)

I got to try a new fruit this week (courtesy of my boyfriend, Shar), which also meant I had to photograph it. This is a star apple, also known as caimito or cainito. The name “caimito” is believed to have come from the Mayan words for juice, breast, and sap. Apparently the fruit originated in the Caribbean, but can now be found throughout other tropical countries. It’s full of antioxidants, Vitamin C, and a moderate amount of calcium and phosphorus :) To me, it tasted a tad bit like lychee mixed with plum.
